“One individual may die for an idea, but that idea will, after his death, incarnate itself in a thousand lives.”- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
The Indian Independence movement is incomplete without mentioning the “Patriot of Patriots”, ‘Netaji’ Subhas Chandra Bose. Therefore, on his 124th birth anniversary which is celebrated as ‘Parakram Divas’, I pay my humble tributes to this courageous son of Bharat Mata.
Netaji’s contribution to the Indian Independence Movement bears testimony to his sheer intelligence, courage and fervent nationalism. A man of tall stature, he changed the face of Indian Independence Movement by founding the Indian National Army which enlisted Indians from various parts of the world. Through his clarion call of “Give me blood and I will give you freedom,” he mobilised the youth of the Nation into taking up arms for India’s independence, thereby putting into action the teachings of his spiritual Guru, Swami Vivekananda.
Using the INA, Netaji was able to drive out the British from Andaman and Nicobar islands and hoist India’s tricolor flag at Port Blair. Bose’s unique outlook on the Indian freedom struggle inspired other revolutionary leaders and gave them a platform to participate in the Indian freedom struggle.
However, Netaji’s contributions to the freedom struggle have had many interpretations, with many saying that he has not been given his due recognition. To remedy this, our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a high-level committee with noted experts, family members of Netaji and eminent members of the Azad Hind fauj to commemorate Netaji’s work for a free India. In order to honour and remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, the Government has decided to celebrate his birthday every year as “Parakram Diwas” to inspire people of the country, especially the youth, to act with fortitude in the face of adversity as Netaji did.
I hope that this will revitalise every citizen’s patriotism and love for our country and that all of us work towards imbibing the ideals and principles embodied by Netaji. This would be the best way to honour him.
Jai Hind!
