Biography in English

Dr C. N. Ashwathnarayan, is a prominent leader from the Vokkaliga Community of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He entered mainstream politics in 2004 by joining the BJP and contested from Malleshwaram (Vidhan Sabha constituency). He was also the Vice President of the BJP, Bangalore District.

In the previous government led by BSY, he was the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and the Minister of Higher Education, Information Technology & Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood. He was also the Chairman of the State’s Covid-19 task force and the District In-charge minister for Ramanagara.

As Covid Task Force Chairman, he led from the front during the second wave of the pandemic, ensuring efficient bed management, oxygen management, triaging, medicine availability.

Under his leadership, the Department of Higher Education has initiated steps to adopt the National Education Policy 2020, making it the first state in India to do so. He also recently launched a comprehensive Learning Management System in Karnataka, making it the first state in the country to have Integrated LMS with smart classrooms, learning management solutions, and tablet PCs distributed among students for effective digital learning.

As the Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology, he took several measures to encourage start-ups, Engineering R&D, Biotechnology, and establishing technology hubs beyond Bengaluru. Karnataka is the top performer for the 2nd consecutive year in 2020 as per DPIIT’s States’ Startup Ranking. Karnataka retains its No. 1 position as the Most Innovative State in the India Innovation Index 2020 by Niti Aayog. The State contributes to about 34% of India’s $ 60 billion bioeconomy.

The Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood has launched the ‘Skill Connect’ and ‘Skill Registry’ portals with his guidance. Under the National Rural Livelihood Mission Scheme, various self-help groups have been established and brought under a single platform to encourage women in the State.

As the district-in-charge minister of Ramanagara, he initiated the construction of district hospital and implemented government schemes such as MNREGA, which helped provide job opportunities to people even during the pandemic.

Other positions he held include Convener of Doctors Cell – Bharatiya Janata Party Bangalore. He has worked tirelessly in his constituency to ensure more than 95% of citizens in his constituency are vaccinated. Dr Ashwathnarayan C. N. holds an MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore.

Family and Childhood

Dr. C. N. Ashwathnarayan is the youngest son of Sri. T.K. Narayanappa and Smt. V.L. Padmamma and was born on 2 February 1969. T.K. Narayanappa was a teacher, and retired as a Dy Superintendent of Physical Education. has 3 three brothers. He is married to Smt. Shruthi, who holds a master’s degree in Social Works (Master of Social Work). He has two children, a son, Amogh, and a daughter, Akanksha.

Early life & Career

Dr. Ashwathnarayan C. N. completed his MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. After completing his schooling in Bangalore and Shivamogga, he went to Kasturba Medical College, Manipal to complete his medical degree, where he became the president of student’s union and upon completing the course he became the president of Junior Doctor’s association. After working his way through college as a leader of student’s union and then as president of junior doctors association, he was elected as Senate and Syndicate member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Bangalore University.

He started Padmashree Charitable Trust and Shushrutha Group of Institution, which are running a group of educational Institutions, which offer various courses in Paramedic, Management, Science and technology and Ayurvedic Medical Schience.

Political Career

Dr. C. N. Ashwathnarayan entered mainstream politics in 2004 by joining the BJP and contested from Malleshwaram (Vidhan Sabha constituency) and lost the election against a sitting MLA M.R. Seetharam.

In the year 2008, he again contested from the same constituency. He won the election to the state legislature with a huge margin against two times MLA, M.R. Seetharam.

He was elevated to the level of Vice President of BJP, Bangalore District. The BJP candidate from Bangalore North constituency won by a large margin in the April 2009 general elections, and BJP candidates won in 6 of 7 wards in 2010 Municipal corporation elections.

The ‘Dhobi Ghat’ in Malleswhwaram has the privilege of being the first modernized dhobi ghat not only within the city but also in the state. This initiative by Dr. Ashwathnarayan supports the livelihood of 400 families and has now become a ‘National Model’.

The Anganwadi centers at Govt Schools in Malleshwaram are  developed on ‘Montessori’ model provide the best learning experience for kids, way better than the private preschool centers.

A citizen-centric Complaint Redressal platform (Portal & APP)called ‘Malleshwaram Sahaaya’ built for citizens to report their grievances and bring about coordination and transparency among various govt agencies.
