 World Environment Day

The Earth as our home is very precious to us. What makes it precious, besides all kinds of natural wonder is the vast biodiversity gifted to us by nature. It is this ‘biodiversity’ which we have to preserve and is the theme for the #WorldEnvironmentDay.

At this juncture of time, preservation of biodiversity is of utmost concern. As recent events whether they are the bushfires seen in Brazil, the United States, and Australia, or the locust infestations across East Africa and the current global of COVID-19, the relationship between humans and nature is becoming more glaring. Let us pledge today to broaden our understanding of the natural world and act responsibly in preserving and beautifying the environment.

We must remember that our #SanatanaDharma teaches us the values of environmental protection and sustainable living. The concept of the Panchamahabhutas explains how the five great natural elements create a cycle of life that is shown forth in the structure and interconnectedness of the cosmos and the human body. As such Indians were always very sensitive to the environment and paid special attention to the preservation of the natural world. Living with mother nature was harmonious for our ancestors who were blessed with some of the world’s rarest biodiversity hotspots. At this time, we need to further promote these Indian ethos and preserve our blessings.

“It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures.”

In these times of uncertainty and global pandemic, our duty as a collective community to nurture our nature for a better future becomes even more vital. Let us pledge to do just that.

Wishing you all on this World Environment Day!
